About the Workshop
This single-day intensive workshop is designed to take participants from observation to confident hands-on performance in laparoscopic suturing. The format combines a live myomectomy or hysterectomy or adenomyomectomy in the operating theatre, focused didactic sessions on the principles of intracorporeal suturing, structured hands-on practice on laparoscopy towers, and a timed task-based competition to consolidate learning. Delegates will be capped at 30, distributed across 5 hands-on simulator stations (4–6 delegates per station) with a dedicated faculty mentor at each station, ensuring individualised feedback throughout the day.
Learning Objectives
By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:
- Demonstrate correct port placement and ergonomic principles for laparoscopic suturing.
- Perform intracorporeal knot tying on a simulator using a standardised, reproducible technique.
- Lay a continuous suture line with even bite spacing and appropriate tension on a wet tissue.
- Select appropriate suture material, needle geometry and instruments for common laparoscopic gynaecological scenarios.
- Critically observe and discuss a live laparoscopic myomectomy or hysterectomy or adenomyomectomy, with emphasis on layered uterine closure.
Target Audience
Practising gynaecologists, gynaec-endoscopy fellows, senior postgraduate residents and consultants who wish to systematically refine laparoscopic suturing skills. Prior exposure to diagnostic laparoscopy is desirable but not mandatory.
